ಪ್ರಗತಿವಾಹಿನಿ ಸುದ್ದಿ, ಬೆಳಗಾವಿ – ಜಿಎಸ್ ಟಿ ದಾಖಲೆಗಳಿಲ್ಲದೆ 7 ಲಾರಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾಗಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಸುಮಾರು 7 ಕೋಟಿ ರೂ. ಮೌಲ್ಯದ ಅಡಿಕೆಗಳನ್ನು ಬೆಳಗಾವಿ ಸೆಂಟ್ರಲ್ ಜಿಎಸ್ಟಿ ಮತ್ತು ಸೆಂಟ್ರಲ್ ಎಕ್ಸೈಸ್ ಅಧಿಕಾರಿಗಳು ವಶಪಡಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನಿಂದ ಬಂದ ಮಾಹಿತಿ ಮೇರೆಗೆ ಹುಬ್ಬಳ್ಳಿ – ನವಲಗುಂದ ರಸ್ತೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಲಾರಿಗಳನ್ನು ವಶಕ್ಕೆ ಪಡೆಯಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಶಿವಮೊಗ್ಗದಿಂದ ದೆಹಲಿ, ಅಹಮದಾಬಾದ್ ಗಳಿಗೆ ಅಡಿಕೆ ಸಾಗಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತಿತ್ತು. ಅಡಿಕೆಗೆ ಶೇ. 5ರಷ್ಟು ಜಿಎಸ್ಟಿ ಕಟ್ಟಬೇಕಿತ್ತು. ಆದರೆ ಜಿಎಸ್ಟಿ ಕಟ್ಟಿರುವ ಯಾವುದೇ ದಾಖಲೆ ಇಲ್ಲದ ಕಾರಣ ಅವುಗಳನ್ನು ವಶಕ್ಕೆ ಪಡೆಯಲಾಗಿದೆ ಎಂದು ಸಿಜಿಎಸ್ಟಿ ಅಸಿಸ್ಟಂಟ್ ಕಮಿಶನರ್ ಅಜಿಂಕ್ಯ ಕಾಟ್ಕರ್ ತಿಳಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

Central GST & Central Excise Commissionerate, Belagavi intercepts seven vehicles transporting Areca Nut worth Rs. 7 Cr (approx) without GST Documents.
Based on a specific information received from DGGI, Mangalore Zonal Unit, the officers of Central GST, Belagavi, swiftly swung into action and intercepted seven vehicles loaded with Arecanut worth Rs 7 Cr (approx). Upon enquiry, it was noticed that the said conveyances were carrying areca nuts and moving without proper GST documents on Hubli-Navalgund Road.
Areca nut or commonly known as ‘Supari’ is liable for GST @5%. It is mainly grown in Malnad and Coastal part of Karnataka. It is mainly used in the preparation of Pan Masala, Scented Supari or raw usage along with Pan leap. It is noticed that a lot of tax evasion is taking place in respect of supply of areca nut. In this regard, this office is continuously making efforts to contain the revenue loss to the exchequer by taking appropriate preventive measures.
Initial examination indicated that purchases of the said areca nut was made near Shivamogga and was meant for delivery at Delhi and Ahmadabad. It appears that the modus operandi involved in this case is supply of areca nuts without payment of GST. All the seven vehicles along with the said goods are taken into custody by the officers of DGGI, Belagavi Zonal Unit, Belagavi. Further investigation in the matter is under way.
