BESCOM turns profitable, records ₹293.62 crore profit in FY26

Bengaluru, October 3, 2026: Bengaluru Electricity Supply Company Limited (BESCOM) has recorded a profit of ₹293.62 crore in FY 2025-26.

The financial performance of BESCOM for FY 2025-26 and the factors that contributed to the company recording a profit were presented at the recent 144th BESCOM Board Meeting chaired by Energy and Tourism Minister K.J. George.

Appreciating BESCOM’s improved financial performance, Energy Minister K.J. George said, “the company’s profitability was achieved through a combination of improved revenue collection, efficient management of power procurement, reduction in finance costs and stronger financial discipline”.

“BESCOM’s ability to record a profit of ₹293.62 crore in FY 2025-26 is the result of improved revenue collection, efficient power procurement, reduction in finance costs and stronger financial discipline. At the same time, equal emphasis has been placed on increasing revenue and controlling expenditure, which has helped improve BESCOM’s financial performance,” Energy Minister K.J. George said.

Sharing details on revenue performance, the Energy Minister said BESCOM’s efficient billing system had played a key role in strengthening its financial position. “Our efficient billing system has played an important role in improving BESCOM’s financial performance. The introduction of probe reading has reduced manual intervention and improved billing accuracy. This has resulted in additional electricity sales of around 100 million units and has also helped in accurately capturing Maximum Demand. BESCOM is also working towards achieving 100 per cent billing efficiency among commercial and industrial consumers, who contribute higher revenues,” the Energy Minister said.

“Continuous follow-up of legal and regulatory cases relating to high-value outstanding dues has enabled BESCOM to take steps to realise revenues due to the company. This includes revenue from fixed charges, Cross Subsidy Surcharge and Additional Surcharge. Regular monitoring of Average Revenue Realisation has also helped in tracking revenue, strengthening tariff proposals and taking effective financial decisions,” the Minister said.

Explaining the measures taken to manage expenditure and prevent financial losses, the Minister said, “BESCOM had focused on efficient power procurement and better management of its financial obligations. “Efficient management of power procurement and payment of outstanding dues in instalments have helped reduce the burden of Late Payment Surcharge. BESCOM has also recovered eligible Fuel and Power Purchase Cost Adjustment (FPPA) amounts and effectively utilised early-payment rebates offered by power generators.”

“Finance costs have been reduced through the restructuring of high-interest loans. This has helped lower interest expenditure as well as improve cash management. BESCOM did not default on its debt-servicing obligations,” the Energy Minister said.

“BESCOM’s profitability is the result of sustained efforts to improve revenue realisation, control expenditure and strengthen financial management. The focus on billing efficiency, cost reduction and disciplined financial management has made a significant contribution to this achievement.”
