The beleaguered Congress which was trying to convince former minister Ramesh Jarakiholi to work for the Congress party now seems to have lost all hopes and appointed Lakhan Jarakiholi as his successor in Gokak constituency.
The hopes of Congress that Ramesh may campaign for Congress candidate or remain neutral during the Lok Sabha poll has belied. Congress leadership has realised that it may lose its one time bastion Gokak if it delays action against Ramesh.
Forest Minister Satish Jarakiholi said that this has been cleared by Siddaramaih. Lakhan will be the care taker of Gokak assembly constituency in Congress party and he would be the next candidate in the assembly polls. If Ramesh joins BJP and contest on its ticket then Lakhan will be the Congress candidate, Satish said.
Lakhan was seen campaigning for Congress in this Lok Sabha poll. Lakhan was the close aide of Ramesh but recently Satish Jarakiholi had held talks with him and had requested him to desert Ramesh and join him (Satish).
The politics in Gokak constituency has reached a crucial phase and expected to play major role in the state during the political polarisation after the Lok Sabha election.
