Doctors are life time learners -Dr. Abhijat Sait

The doctor patient ratio in the country is at dismal low the policies are being reviewed and strategic changes are worked out to bridge the gap between low patients-doctor ratio opined Dr. Abhijat Sait, Director National Board of Examination, New Delhi.

The World Health Organization has set a standard of 1:1000 Doctor-Patient ratios.  He was speaking after inaugurating 37th Continuing Medical Education of J N Scientific Committee at KLE Convention Centre, Belagavi. Presently 60,000 medical graduates pass out from medical colleges the plans are on the anvil to increase medical seats to 1,25,000 seats by the year 2025 to fulfill the demand of Doctors to serve the increasing population. Dr. Sait emphasized that acceleration is essential in improving curriculum to meet the changing dynamics of diseases. The services of retired Army Medical Officers will be utilized to teach and train young medical graduates. Doctors are life time learners; he called on practicing Doctors to focus on learning and teaching activity. Presently the medical colleges both in private and government sectors will have to use their resources to the fullest extent. He stressed for public-private partnership in health care.

Dr. Abhijat Sait was felicitated by JNMC Scientific Committee. Dr. S. Gopinath, Former Head of Kidwai Cancer Institute, Bengaluru delivered Dr. B S Jirge Oration. Dr. N S Mahantshetti, Principal J N Medical College presided over the function. Dr.V A Kothiwale, Dr. R S Mudhol, Dr. Anil Hugade, Dr. Shama Bellad, Dr.H B Rajsekhar, Dr. A S Godhi and over 500 delegates were present in the CME. Day long CME focused on the theme Cancer & Care. Lectures sessions, Interactive talks, Group Discussion, Paper presentations were part of the day long CME. The doctors experienced amazing robotic surgical technology “da Vinci” for hands on training. Scientific society journal was released on the occasion. Dr. R B Nerli, Organizing Chairman of the CME welcomed and Dr. Reshma Karishetti proposed vote of thanks.
