The recent cancellation of the Belagavi–Mumbai flight has created a complete vacuum in air connectivity, leaving the city’s business ecosystem high and dry. Mumbai being India’s financial, commercial, and international gateway, this abrupt withdrawal has crippled industrial movement, investor access, export coordination, and client travel overnight – Foundry Cluster President Ram Bhandare said.

Releasing a statement on this, he said that This decision has pushed Belagavi into an economic emergency, with cascading effects across all sectors.

Ground Reality & Economic Impact

• 40% Overall Business Impact — Manufacturing, MSMEs, services, trade, and allied
  • Industries are already witnessing a sharp slowdown.

• Export & Global Business Severely Hit — Overseas clients, inspection agencies, and
  • technical collaborators are unable to access Belagavi, directly affecting export orders and confidence.

• Employment at Serious Risk — An estimated 10,000 to 15,000 jobs across industries
  • And supply chains face immediate threat if connectivity is not restored.

• Loss of Competitive Edge — Continued neglect will force businesses to relocate
  • operations to Kolhapur and surrounding cities, permanently weakening Belagavi’s industrial base.

• Belgaum being industrial hub of foundries, Hydraulics & Precision machining components.  Also has Aerospace SEZ.  All these sectors will have big impact on their domestic & foreign customer’s visits, which will lead delayed developments & business loss.

The cancellation of the Mumbai flight has effectively isolated Belagavi from India’s primary business hub, disrupting:

• Export logistics coordination
• Medical, academic, and professional movement

This has broken the backbone of business continuity for the region as almost 60 to 80 percentage of the business in Belgaum is from Pune, Mumbai & Chennai
