Prabhakar Kore, Member of Rajyasabha on Saturday met D K Shivakumar, minister for water resources and urged him to construct the bridge cum mini-dams or check dam as a permanent solution to the water crisis in the Krishna basin districts.
He demanded that form every 10 km distance such bridges should be built and an agreement be entered with Maharashtra government for release of 4TMC water from Koyna dam. Shivakumar was in Manjari to inspect the checkdam built at the cost of Rs. 50 crores. Kore requested him to provide the compensation to the farmers as they lost crops owing to the drying up of River Krishna river.
Later speaking to the media Shivakumar said that the issue will be discussed with the Maharashtra government and a long lasting solution will be found. Both the states are interested in protecting the interest of the farmers. After a detailed discussion with the Maharashtra government agreement will be entered into he said.
Most of the MLAs from the Belagavi district were present.
