NATIONAL CANCER AWARENESS DAY OBSERVED AT KLE MBA

Pragativahini News, Belagavi – On the occasion of National Cancer awareness day on Thursday, The Department of MBA at KLE Dr.M. S. Sheshgiri  College of Engineering and Technology, Belagavi, organised a session on Early Detection of Cancer & Preventive Measures” to educate the students and staff of the institute.

Dr. Kumar Vincurkar, Associate Professor, Department of Surgical Oncology, KLE, JNMC, Belagavi was the resource person for the occasion.

Addressing the gathering he emphasized on the need to understand the realities about cancer and also to know the myths that are known to harm the patient more. He said that every two minutes a new cancer case is diagnosed in India and Breast Cancer in women and oral cavity cancer in men are the most common forms of cancer that lead to 50% of deaths in India.

Further he said that consumption of tobacco, alcohol, unhealthy diet, obesity, harmful radiations and occupational exposure are a few common known reasons that cause cancer. He also educated the audience on the early detection methods and warnings signs that will help identify cancer.  He elaborated on the importance of need for biopsy and staging the levels of cancer for better cure and remedial measures.

On this occasion the students were advised to refrain for tobacco consumption, maintain a healthy body weight, consume a diet rich in fruits and vegetables, avoid red meat and undertake a physical exercise as a daily routine to avoid this deadly disease.

Principal, Dr. Basavaraj Katageri applauded the efforts taken by the department to celebrated days of National and International importance. He said that such initiatives are a need of the hour to ensure that education institutes build a strong value system in students to contribute for nation building.

Dr. D. G. Kulkarni, HOD, KLE MBA welcomed the gathering and narrated the importance of celebrating National Cancer awareness day. He said that it is important for the young generation to know about these deadly diseases so that; they can educate a few others to create awareness on the myths and realities of cancer.

Prof. Prayag Gokhale introduced the guest. Prof. Ameet Chate coordinated the event and proposed the vote of thanks.  Sanjeela anchored.
