The Bhavihal lake is around five acres and is located in the drought prone zone of Bailhongal Taluka . The village is completely dependent on rain water and had very less storage capacity.
The lake is strategically placed between Bhavihal, Sampgoan , Yargappa and Nagnur and would thus be beneficial to 16000 population and 2000 cattle.
Mr Vivek Prakash , of the Oerlikon group financed the rejuvenation of this lake, in the memory of his father, Late Dr Rajendra Prakash a renowned teacher and later pro vice chancellor of IIT Rourkee.
The foundation had faced several difficulties while undertaking this project , lack of approach road , nonseasonal rain , non availability of black soil were a few. However the foundation did not give up and at the end of two years their efforts have paid off.
The lake has been selected for lift irrigation which may however not be required this season due to good rainfall which had filed the lake to the brim.
PYAAS FOUNDATION has ensured that the water holding capacity of the lake has literally doubled with the desilting of the lake and by increasing the level of the enbarkments on all sides to over twenty feet. The desilting of the lake has been completed and the bed covered with black soil and compressed to help retain water.
The villagers expressed satisfaction and gratitude on completion of the lake. The lake is evidence of the persistence of PYAAS FOUNDATION in this dry drought prone area and the social commitment of philanthropists like Mr Vivek Prakash.
The lake will be further maintained by a committee of villagers .The event was witnessed by large number of villagers and members of the foundation. This lake is the eighth in the series of nine lakes rejuvenated by the foundation.
