Dr. Prabhakar Kore Basic Science Research Centre [BSRC] of Belagavi campus at KLE Academy of Higher Education and Research [Deemed-to-be-University] conducted a seminar ‘Regulatory Compliance: Good Laboratory Practices’ held on Tuesday, under the auspices of University Department of Education for Health Professionals [UDEHP].
The seminar was designed for mid-career scientists / faculty members / research scholars and students in Research Organizations, Institutions, Universities and Colleges who seek to extend their regulatory compliance for research skills. Sixty participants from different subjects belonging to Pharmaceutical Sciences, Medicine, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, and Dental Sciences were enrolled and attended the programme.
Dr. Sunil Jalalpure, Deputy Director – BSRC; welcomed all the participants and highlighted the programme initiatives taken by BSRC. He briefed the significant achievements of BSRC and introduced the seminar speaker Mr. Ajit Ekal, Managing Director of INSTA VISION Lab. Satara – Maharashtra.
Guest of Honour: Dr. Alka D. Kale – Principal, KAHER’s V. K. Institute of Dental Sciences and Administrative Incharge of BSRC along with other dignitaries inaugurated the programme by lamp lightening. In her remark, she congratulated the BSRC staff members for conducting such activities and beginning of a masters course ‘MSc. – Biotechnology’ at BSRC. She briefed the previously conducted activities and added the importance of applied sciences and behind regulatory norms by the governing bodies for conducting effective and acceptable research outcomes.
Scientific session was started with talk by Mr. Ekal with emphasis on understanding of laboratory practices with emphasis on quality aspects. He highlighted that Research laboratories conducting regulatory studies must comply with laboratory requirements to ensure the quality, traceability and validity of test results. The regulatory requirements for lab practices defined by regulatory agencies including Food & Drug Administration [FDA], International Conference on Harmonization [ICH] and represented as Good Laboratory Practice [GLP] regulations.
Post lunch session was started with visit and demonstration of instruments/apparatus at BSRC labs. Participants were briefed for advanced instruments such as HPLC / UPLC, Franz Diffusion Cell, Brookfield Viscometer, Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy, Dissolution apparatus, PCR’s, Gel Documentation, Lyophilizer, Anaerobic workstations, Shaker incubator etc.
In continuation of scientific sessions, Biotechnology Professor at Karnatak University – Dharwad: Dr. V. Shyam Kumar highlighted that the administrative and regulatory aspects can facilitate the process by helping employees in better understanding of regulatory requirements for lab practices. He urged for strict compliance of regulatory guidelines towards pre-clinical and clinical research along with importance of standard operating procedures.
At the end of the programme, several participants voluntarily expressed their views to carry out life science research and possible use of BSRC facilities for their studies. Scientist Dr. Sanjay Mishra awarded the participants with certificates and delivered vote of thanks.
