“Fostering Publication Integrity and Plagiarism Awareness”

KLE Academy of Higher Education and Research’s Dr. Prabhakar Kore Basic Science Research Center (BSRC), Belagavi conducted a seminar on “Fostering Publication Integrity and Plagiarism Awareness” on under the auspices of KLE University Department of Education for Health Professionals (UDEHP).
The seminar was designed for understanding of publication standards and plagiarism attentiveness required for research/review publications as well as writing research proposals for financial assistance. Around hundred ten delegates from allied areas of Interdisciplinary Sciences, Pharmacy, Medical, Dentistry and Ayurveda were enrolled.
Dr. Sunil Jalalpure, Deputy Director – KAHER’s BSRC, delivered welcome note for all the speakers / participants and briefed about seminar. The seminar chief guest – Dr. S. D. Kholkute, Former Director – National Institute of Traditional Medicine [ICMR], Belagavi inaugurated the seminar by lightening the lamp accompanied with seminar dignitaries.
In continuance, Dr. Alka D. Kale informed the gathering for previously organized scientific activities and major research publications made by BSRC scientists. In remark by Dr. Sunita Patil, KLE UDEHP-Director, congratulated the faculty members for conducting seminars on such topics as are need of hour for faculty as well as students.
She briefed about UDEHP activities and its vision for the university. During his chief guest remark, Dr. Kholkute highlighted the importance of UGC guidelines and compulsory following for data and publication integrity.
Dr. P. A. Patil, Professor – USM KLE International Medical Programme initiated the seminar with major tips to expedite research publications and elaborated on appropriate selection of scientific words while preparing manuscripts. Dr. Patil urged to the delegates to continue earlier published studies for research outcomes as numerous studies/works has been left after an publications.
While introducing the fundamentals of Integrity in publications, Dr. V. Shyam Kumar – Professor at Karnatak University, Dharwad encouraged the participants for the commendable publications. Dr. Kumar emphasized to follow the established guidelines and avoid plagiarism in publications.
Post lunch session was initiated by participant’s visit to BSRC laboratories for interactions on ongoing research studies along with demonstration of advanced instruments such as HPLC, UPLC, HPTLC, Diffusion cell, Dissolution apparatus, Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy [AAS], PCR, and Gel Documentation etc.
Dr. Girish Tillu, Executive Editor of Journal of Ayurveda and integrative Medicine at S P Pune University detailed for communicating research – science, ethics and transparency. Dr. Tillu explained for appropriate use of key points while writing manuscripts in terms of editor’s perspectives. His lecture was continued with hand on activity having cases of scientific intergrity and publication ethics.
Dr. Girish discussed several cases with the participants and highlighted major point that needs to consider for quality publications as well as avoiding predatory publications.
At the end of the programme, participants were rewarded with certificates. Dr. Sanjay Mishra-Scientist, BSRC, Belagavi delivered vote of thanks to all the speakers and participants and coordinated the programme.
