ಪ್ರಗತಿವಾಹಿನಿ ಸುದ್ದಿ, ಬೆಳಗಾವಿ : ಪರಂಪರೆ ಸಂರಕ್ಷಣೆ ಮತ್ತು ಸಮಾಜಸೇವೆಯ ಅಪೂರ್ವ ಸಮನ್ವಯದ ಉದಾಹರಣೆಯಾಗಿ ಪ್ಯಾಸ್ ಫೌಂಡೇಶನ್ (Pyaas Foundation) ಮುತಗಾ ಗ್ರಾಮದ ಕಂಚವೀರ ನಗರದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಸುಮಾರು 300 ವರ್ಷಗಳಷ್ಟು ಹಳೆಯ ಐತಿಹಾಸಿಕ ಬಾವಿಯನ್ನು ಪುನರುಜ್ಜೀವನಗೊಳಿಸಿದ್ದು, ಬೆಳಗಾವಿಯ ಮರೆತುಹೋದ ಇತಿಹಾಸದ ಒಂದು ಮಹತ್ವದ ಅಧ್ಯಾಯವನ್ನು ಮತ್ತೆ ಬೆಳಕಿಗೆ ತಂದಿದೆ.
ಡಾ. ನಿತಿನ್ ಖೋತ್ ಅವರ ಉದಾರ ಅನುದಾನದ ನೆರವಿನಿಂದ ಈ ಮಹತ್ವದ ಕಾರ್ಯ ಸಾಧ್ಯವಾಗಿದೆ. ಕಳೆದ ಸುಮಾರು ಮೂರು ದಶಕಗಳಿಂದ ಈ ಬಾವಿ ಹೂಳು, ಕೊಳಚೆ ನೀರು, ಕಟ್ಟಡದ ಅವಶೇಷಗಳು, ಪ್ಲಾಸ್ಟಿಕ್ ತ್ಯಾಜ್ಯ ಹಾಗೂ ಖಾಲಿ ಬಾಟಲಿಗಳಡಿ ಹೂತುಹೋಗಿತ್ತು.
ನಿರ್ಲಕ್ಷ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ಒಳಗಾಗಿದ್ದ ಈ ಐತಿಹಾಸಿಕ ರಚನೆ ಇದೀಗ ತನ್ನ ಮೂಲ ವೈಭವವನ್ನು ಮರಳಿ ಪಡೆದು ಪ್ರದೇಶದ ಸಾಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಕ ಮತ್ತು ವಾಸ್ತುಶಿಲ್ಪ ಪರಂಪರೆಯ ಪ್ರತೀಕವಾಗಿ ಹೊರಹೊಮ್ಮಿದೆ.
ಪ್ಯಾಸ್ ಫೌಂಡೇಶನ್ನ ಸ್ವಯಂಸೇವಕರು ಬಾವಿಯನ್ನು ಸುಮಾರು 60 ಅಡಿ ಆಳದವರೆಗೆ ಸ್ವಚ್ಛಗೊಳಿಸಿ, ಹೆಚ್ಚುವರಿಯಾಗಿ 10 ಅಡಿ ಆಳದವರೆಗೆ ಉತ್ಖನನ ನಡೆಸಿದರು. ಈ ವೇಳೆ ಬಾವಿಯ ತಳಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ನೈಸರ್ಗಿಕ ಜಲಮೂಲಗಳು ಪತ್ತೆಯಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಶುದ್ಧ ಮತ್ತು ಸ್ಫಟಿಕದಂತೆ ನಿರ್ಮಲವಾದ ನೀರು ನಿರಂತರವಾಗಿ ಹರಿಯುತ್ತಿರುವುದು ಕಂಡುಬಂದಿದೆ.
ಹಲವು ವರ್ಷಗಳ ನಿರ್ಲಕ್ಷ್ಯದ ನಡುವೆಯೂ ಈ ಜಲಮೂಲಗಳು ಜೀವಂತವಾಗಿರುವುದು ಪ್ರಕೃತಿಯ ಶಕ್ತಿ ಮತ್ತು ಸಾಂಪ್ರದಾಯಿಕ ಜಲವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆಗಳ ಮಹತ್ವವನ್ನು ಮತ್ತೊಮ್ಮೆ ಸಾಬೀತುಪಡಿಸಿದೆ.
ಬಾವಿಯ ಸುತ್ತಲಿನ ಸುಂದರ ಕಲ್ಲಿನ ಕಂಬಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಕಲಾತ್ಮಕ ಕಮಾನುಗಳು ವಿಶೇಷ ಆಕರ್ಷಣೆಯಾಗಿವೆ.
ಸ್ಥಳೀಯ ಹಿರಿಯರು ಹಾಗೂ ಇತಿಹಾಸ ಅಧ್ಯಯನಕಾರರ ಪ್ರಕಾರ, ಈ ಬಾವಿಯ ನಿರ್ಮಾಣ ಆದಿಲ್ಶಾಹಿ ಅಥವಾ ಆರಂಭಿಕ ಮರಾಠಾ ಆಡಳಿತದ ಕಾಲಘಟ್ಟಕ್ಕೆ ಸೇರಿರಬಹುದು ಎನ್ನಲಾಗಿದೆ.
ಅಲ್ಲದೆ, ಸ್ವಾತಂತ್ರ್ಯ ಹೋರಾಟದ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ಪ್ರದೇಶವು ಹೋರಾಟಗಾರರ ಗುಪ್ತ ಸಭೆಗಳಿಗೆ ಬಳಸಲಾಗುತ್ತಿತ್ತು ಎಂಬ ಮಾತುಗಳು ಸ್ಥಳೀಯರಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಚಲಿತದಲ್ಲಿವೆ.
ಬಾವಿಯ ಪುನರುಜ್ಜೀವನದ ನಂತರ ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕರ ಆಕರ್ಷಣೆಯ ಕೇಂದ್ರವಾಗಿ ಅದು ರೂಪುಗೊಂಡಿದೆ.
ಹಿರಿಯ ನಾಗರಿಕರು ತಮ್ಮ ಬಾಲ್ಯದ ನೆನಪುಗಳನ್ನು ಮೆಲುಕು ಹಾಕುತ್ತಾ ಭಾವನಾತ್ಮಕರಾಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದರೆ, ಯುವ ಪೀಳಿಗೆ ತಮ್ಮ ಪೂರ್ವಜರ ವಾಸ್ತುಶಿಲ್ಪ ಕೌಶಲ್ಯವನ್ನು ಕಂಡು ಆಶ್ಚರ್ಯ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಪಡಿಸುತ್ತಿದೆ.
ಈ ಯೋಜನೆಯು ಸಮುದಾಯದ ಸಹಕಾರದಿಂದ ಇತಿಹಾಸವನ್ನು ಸಂರಕ್ಷಿಸುವುದು, ಜಲಸಂಪನ್ಮೂಲಗಳನ್ನು ಪುನಶ್ಚೇತನಗೊಳಿಸುವುದು ಹಾಗೂ ಜನರನ್ನು ತಮ್ಮ ಸಾಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಕ ಬೇರುಗಳೊಂದಿಗೆ ಮರುಸಂಪರ್ಕಿಸುವುದು ಹೇಗೆ ಸಾಧ್ಯ ಎಂಬುದಕ್ಕೆ ಮಾದರಿಯಾಗಿದೆ. ಪ್ಯಾಸ್ ಫೌಂಡೇಶನ್ ಕೇವಲ ಒಂದು ಬಾವಿಯನ್ನು ಪುನರುಜ್ಜೀವನಗೊಳಿಸಿಲ್ಲ;

PYAAS FOUNDATION REVIVES 300-YEAR-OLD HERITAGE WELL IN MUTGA, UNVEILS A FORGOTTEN CHAPTER OF BELAGAVI’S HISTORY
Belagavi, June 2026: In a remarkable blend of heritage conservation and community service, Pyaas Foundation has successfully revived a magnificent 300-year-old historic well at Kanchveer Nagar in Mutga village, bringing back to life a forgotten landmark from Belagavi’s rich past.
The restoration project was made possible through a generous grant from Dr. Nitin Khot. For nearly three decades, the well had remained buried under layers of silt, sewage water, rubble, plastic waste, and discarded bottles. What was once a neglected and forgotten structure has now emerged as a stunning reminder of the region’s architectural and cultural heritage.
Volunteers of Pyaas Foundation painstakingly cleaned the well to its original depth of nearly sixty feet and further excavated an additional ten feet. To the delight of the restoration team and local residents, fresh water springs were discovered flowing at the bottom of the well. These ancient aquifers, preserved beneath years of neglect, continue to yield crystal-clear water, demonstrating the resilience of nature and traditional water systems.
Equally captivating are the beautifully carved arches and stone columns that adorn the structure. Historians and local elders believe the well may date back to the Adilshahi or early Maratha period. Oral traditions also suggest that the site once served as a discreet meeting point for freedom fighters during India’s struggle for independence.
Since its revival, the well has attracted large crowds of visitors, many of whom are seeing such historic architecture for the first time. Elderly residents have returned with tears of nostalgia, while younger generations marvel at the craftsmanship of their ancestors.
The restoration stands as a testament to how community effort can preserve history, revive water resources, and reconnect people with their roots. Through this project, Pyaas Foundation has not merely restored a well—it has rekindled a forgotten story of Belagavi.
