Belagavi: In public life, positions and power are secondary to party commitment, continuous engagement with people and service to society. Guided by this belief, advocate and BJP leader Murugendragouda S. Patil has been steadily building his presence in Belagavi’s public and social sphere.

Aspiring to contest the upcoming Assembly election from the Belagavi North constituency, Murugendragouda Patil has been associated with the BJP for the past 23 years and has actively participated in party organisation as well as various social service initiatives.

Simplicity, an approachable personality, the ability to connect with people across sections and a willingness to respond to public concerns are among the qualities that define his public persona.

Within the party organisation, he is known as a committed and active worker. Organisation-building, social service and public outreach have remained the three key pillars of his political journey.

From Legal Profession to Public Service

Born on March 7, 1980, Murugendragouda S. Patil holds a B.A., LL.B. degree. He is a member of the Belagavi Bar Association and has also served as its former Vice-President. Alongside his legal profession, he is also involved in agriculture.

A resident of Patil Galli in Kanabargi, he comes from a family with a background of public service. His father, late Sidagouda B. Patil, was a retired Tahsildar, while his mother was late Vijayamala Sidagouda Patil. His wife, Savita Murugendragouda Patil, is a BJP corporator from Ward No. 55.

23 Years of Association with the BJP

With 23 years of association with the BJP, Murugendragouda Patil has handled responsibilities at different levels of the party organisation.

He has served as President of the Belagavi North BJP Yuva Morcha, twice as Belagavi District Vice-President, and as District General Secretary. He is currently serving as BLO-2.

He maintains close ties with senior state leaders B.S. Yediyurappa and B.Y. Vijayendra. He recalls the opportunity to personally welcome Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Sambra Airport as one of the memorable moments of his political journey.

Patil is proficient in Kannada, Hindi, Marathi and English and also takes a keen interest in organising sporting activities and events.

‘Community is the Key’ — Service Through MP Foundation

The MP Foundation has emerged as an important platform for Murugendragouda Patil’s social initiatives.

With the guiding philosophy “Community Services is the Key to a Better World,” the foundation undertakes programmes aimed at supporting people from different sections of society.

Education as a Priority

Educational support is extended to economically disadvantaged and needy students through free education as well as the distribution of notebooks, school bags and uniforms. Special attention is also given to encouraging the education of girl students.

Women’s Empowerment

Skill-development programmes, support for self-employment and guidance aimed at helping women achieve financial independence form part of the foundation’s activities.

Employment Guidance for Youth

Career guidance programmes, information about employment opportunities and vocational training initiatives are organised to help young people identify suitable career and employment opportunities.

Healthcare with a Human Touch

Blood donation camps, free eye-check-up camps and support for cataract surgeries are among the healthcare initiatives undertaken.

Assistance is also extended to needy families through the distribution of food and grocery kits. Drinking water facilities, wheelchairs and walking sticks for persons with disabilities are among other welfare initiatives.

Support for Farmers and Economically Weaker Families

Patil is also involved in initiatives aimed at providing farmers with agricultural guidance and creating awareness about cleanliness, hygiene and sanitation.

During marriages of economically weaker families, essential household items are provided as a gesture of support.

Active Participation in Religious and Cultural Activities

Alongside social service, Murugendragouda Patil is actively involved in religious and cultural activities.

Every year, Annadan Seva is organised for around 5,000 devotees at Sri Siddheshwar Temple in Kanabargi and around 2,500 devotees at Ramteerth Temple.

Service activities are also organised in connection with Basava Jayanti, Shivaji Jayanti, Valmiki Jayanti, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Jayanti, Kanakadasa Jayanti and Karnataka Rajyotsava, among other cultural and commemorative occasions.

During Ganeshotsav, programmes benefiting around 2,000 people are organised, while various service activities are conducted for around 1,200 people during Dasara and Navaratri.

Special Focus on Cleanliness

Cleanliness and environmental awareness are given special attention through Swachh Bharat Abhiyan activities every Sunday.

On the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday, fruits, nutritious food, warm clothes and sweets are distributed at government hospitals and old-age homes.

During Diwali, free sweets are also distributed to needy people as an effort to share the festive spirit with them.

Simplicity and Public Connect as Political Strength

Simplicity and an approachable nature are prominent features of Murugendragouda Patil’s public life. He maintains direct contact with party workers, youth and members of the public and gives importance to listening to the concerns of people in the constituency.

With an aspiration to contest from the Belagavi North Assembly constituency, Patil is seeking to further expand his public outreach and organisational activities.
