Police raided different Matka dens in the city on Friday and arrested 11 persons and seized the cash Rs. 70, 000.
Fayum Kotwal a matka bookie and his accomplices Ashok Hampannanavar, Afzal Anwar Pathan were busy in playing matka near N S Patil Birla-shakti Cement shop in the Khade Bazar police station limits. Mahanteshwar Jiddi, ACP and his staff members I S Patil, G M Badiger, Shivaling B Patil, S S Bagalkot and jeep driver R. G. Gundi raided the place and arrested three accused. A cash of Rs. 36,380 was also seized from the place.
Market Police station staff too raided a public place near KEB office n Khanjar galli and arrested John Antony Fernandis, 72 and seized Rs. 30 from him. Two other accused Shafi Tahashildar and Izare of Khanjar galli escaped in the melee. A case has been registered against them.
Police arrested seven persons near service road bus stop at Honaga village who were reportedly involved in matka business. The arrested persons have been identified as Raju Yellappa Nayik, Yuvaraj Lagamanna Nayik, Sachin Yellappa Patil, Altaf Husensaab Bepadi, Nagesh Shettu Nayik, Yellappa Lumanna Hundre, and Hueseinsaab Moulasaab Sayyad. Kingpin Bhairu Appayya Nayik has escaped. A case has been registered in Kakati police station in this regard.
