“Possible floods can be tacked successfully with the coordination of Karnataka”, Maharashtra
Pragativahini News, Sangali : Alike Karnataka, Maharashtra also hit badly for rain and floods last year for which it would hold meeting with the former state to avoid the disaster this year.
Maharashtra’s study team already inspected last year’s flood affected areas including banks of Krishna, Varana, Panchaganga and Koyana rivers and reported the government how the floods should to faced.
Speaking to news persons after a meeting of 7 ministers, 4 MPs, 14 MLAs from Kolhapur and Satara districts, at the deputy commissioner’s office at Kolhapur on Sunday, Maharashtra Irrigation Minister Jayant Patil said the state has suffered severe floods last year, to avoid such a disaster again the government has planned to face the possible flood with the coordination of Karnataka.
He said he and his Karnataka counterpart Ramesh Jarkiholi will meet at Kolhapur next month and in the first week of July CM Uddhav Thackeray will meet Karnataka CM BS Yeddyurappa either in Mumbai or Bengaluru about the matter.
Kolhapur, Sangli, Satara and other districts in South Maharashtra suffered a lot with rain and floods last year. It was said that such a severe flood was not seen in Southern parts of Maharashtra and Northern parts of Karnataka in last 50 years, many human n and animal lives died, crores of rupees worth property, agriculture crop damaged in the floods.
People, not only from the banks of the rivers, but also urban people were shifted to the safer places in boats, last year.
