7 cracks in Smart city Road – Pragativahini exclusive

The Belagavi smart city project which is controversial appears to be courting new containerizes with every passing day. Though the project was declared four and half years ago even the work of Rs. 4 crores was not completed. The completed work if any is also not ‘smart’.
The people of Belagavi were elated when Belagavi was included in the smart city project. People felt as if the city will be heaven in the coming years. For the sake of development people tolerated all the problems. Every time they were thinking of a model city and endured it. Now the Congress road is closed for last three months. There is no work in progress. The work was left half way through. After the stern warning from MLA Abhay Patil the work was done but was not opened for the people even after the deadline.
The work is in progress from 3rd railway gate and the vehicular traffic is allowed from one side. Interestingly cracks are found on the road in seven places before the inauguration of the road. A huge crack is developed between 2nd and 3rd railway gate and has developed cracks of about 30-meter length which is closed by the tar. This has come to the notice of Abhay Patil who walked along the crack and found the discrepancies in it. He ordered to rebuild the road and has instructed not to release the bill till road is road work is completed.
The tender of the work is allotted to a Hyderabad based company and the owner of the company is politically strong. He is said to be the relative of an MP from Hyadarabad Karnataka.
He seems to be under the impression that he can do anything and get away with it. But Abhay Patil has warned the stringent action against the contractor if he fails to build the road according contract terms.
I walked along the newly built Congress road and found cracks in 7 places. the contractor has tried to conceal it by using tar. So, I have instructed them to build the road newly by cutting it open. I won’t allow them to handover the defective road for the public use. If they cannot rebuild it, I will not allow the government to make payment to the contractor.
