Pragativahini News, Belagavi:
Lakshmi Hebbalkar, MLA became emotional after seeing the plight of the farmers in the Halaga village on Friday. The district administration had forcibly acquired the land belonging to the farmers to build a drinking water purification unit.
MLA who returned to Belagavi from Bengaluru visited Halaga village and heard the grievances of the women and tried to console them. ‘this land is not yours, I will fight in such a way as if it is mine. I won’t allow anybody to do injustice to you.’ she told the farmers.
I am not anti-development. But acquisition of the fertile land for the project is wrong. For last four years I am fighting for you. Some unknown forces are behind the district administration’s atrocity and they had tried to evacuate you from the land when I was not in the town. As an MLA I am not in a position to reply you, she said.
At this juncture the farmers damaged the chairs kept there. When police tried to prevent them they protested and questioned the police saying you feel bad when we break the chairs. Who will listen to us when you destroy our life by taking over our land they questioned.
Hebbalkar tried convinced the farmers that he would help them and stopped the work of the project.
