GIT Students Wins “India Innovation Challenge Contest”

GIT team has won the Rs 20 Lakh as a seed money to start the startup

Students team comprising Mr. Sharmad Tadkodkar, Mr. Yash Tendolkar, Mr. Karthik Kulkarni and Mr.Abhishek Shreyakar of KLS Gogte Institute of Technology, Belagavi has won the top position and selected as the First to be incubated among top 10 teams at  India Innovation Challenge Contest -17(IICDC -17) with Rs Twenty Lakh, as a funding for startup.

This contest was designed and organized by Texas Instruments (TI) in association with Department of Science & Technology (DST) and anchored by NSRCEL IIM Bengaluru and supported by Central Govt’s “ MyGov”. GIT team has beaten 5049 teams participated from technical institutions includes prestigious institutions like IITs, NITs and reputed Technical Universities pan India.

Team GIT has developed a prototype working model called “Fire Fight Assist”, which is basically an electronic device helps the fire fighters in detecting the humans/living thing  at the fire affected area and also it is enabled with path tracking system which helps the fire fighters in rescue process and also to come out from the fire affected area. The range of detection is about 20 -25 meters. These students have became young entrepreneurs by starting the startup (company) called “SALUS” at NSRCEL IIM Bengaluru and filed three patents on this project. These students have achieved this under the mentor ship of Prof. Uttam Deshpande, Prof. Praveen Kalkundri, Dr. Santosh Saraf, Dr. Veena Desai and Mr. Gaurav Kamat.

Team GIT had undergone a very long and rigorous selection process consisted multi phase scrutiny levels before claiming the victory in the prestigious contest. IICDC- 2017 has received more than 5049 innovative ideas from 965 technical institutions through online. After series of screenings, 510 teams made it through to the second round where they were given the opportunity to convert their innovative ideas into prototype working model and should submit the demonstration video about how the model works. In the third phase, selected teams were asked to present the business plan and on the basis of teams understanding of socio –economic conditions and financial consideration in determining the price point, team’s communication and marketing plan to spread awareness about their product/service etc.

More than 50 Business evaporators and technical experts from TI were evaluated and selected best 30 teams for finals. The final 10 winners were chosen after many rounds of discussion and deliberations by a panel of eminent judges. These ten teams already started the startups at prestigious incubation center IIM Bengaluru’s innovation and entrepreneurship hub – N S Ragahvan Center for entrepreneurial Learning (NSRCEL) with the help of seed money received in the form prize.
