Mahesh Kumathalli, MLA from Athani assembly constituency on Monday said that if necessary he would not hesitate to tender his resignation. He was demanding that the state government to impress Maharashtra to release the Krishna water.
Kumtalli was addressing the protesters at Athani town and said that he had brought the issue to the notice of the government several times. The government is working over the issue. ‘But as an MLA I can’t sit idle. The problem of the people should be solved first. If the situation warrants, then I am ready to submit the resignation over the water issue’ he said.
Shrimant Patil, MLA from Kagawad constituency too arrived on the spot and extended his support to the agitation. The Krishna river has dried down and the water level in the wells and the bores have gone down. People are facing difficulty to get even a drop of water. The cattle are suffering.
As many as 35 organisations have called for a ‘Athani bandh’ demanding the release of water to river Krishna and permeant solution to the drinking water problem in the town.
