Villagers warn Rasta Roko if no water released from Koyna dam

The villagers of Manjari, Yadur, Chandur, Ingali in Chikkodi taluk and Nasalapur, Bhavana, Soundatti, Diggewadi, Jalalpur in Raibag taluk which are situated on the bank of Krishna river have warned that they would block the Chikkodi – Sangli state highway near Manajri village if the Maharashtra government fails to release the water into Krishna river from Koyna dam.
In memorandum to Santosh Biradar, Tahashildar of Chikkodi, the villagers alleged that they are not getting water even for drinking purpose and the state government should hold a talk with Maharashtra government in this regard.
The villagers said that the Krishna river is completely dried out and the people living on the bank of Krishna are now struggling for the drinking water. The crops have been destroyed owing to the shortage of the water and farmers are in distress. So the state government should hold talks with the Maharashtra government and urge it to release 4 TMC of water before April 30. If failed the famers will resort to the agitation, they warned.
Bharatesh Banavane, director of Doodhaganga sugar mill, Ajit Rao Desai, Mallappa Myshale and others were present.
