*4 ವರ್ಷದ ಮಗುವಿಗೆ Bone Marrow Transplant ಯಶಸ್ವಿ: ಕೆಎಲ್ಇ ವೈದ್ಯರ ಮತ್ತೊಂದು ಸಾಧನೆ*
ಪ್ರಗತಿವಾಹಿನಿ ಸುದ್ದಿ: ಜನ್ಮತಹವಾಗಿ ಮಗುವಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಅಮೆಗಾಕಾರ್ಯೊಸಿಟಿಕ್ ತ್ರೊಂಬೊಸೈಟೋಪೆನಿಯಾ ಖಾಯಿಲೆಯಿಂದ ಬಳಲುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಮಗು ನಿರಂತರವಾಗಿ ಬಿಳಿ ರಕ್ತಕಣಗಳು ಕಡಿಮೆಗೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಿತ್ತು. ಇದರಿಂದ ಮಗು ಸದಾ ಜೀವನ್ಮರಣದ ನಡುವೆ ಹೋರಾಟ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದಳು. ನಿರಂತರವಾಗಿ ಪ್ಲೆಟಲೆಟ್ ನೀಡಬೇಕಾಗುತ್ತಿತ್ತು. ಇದನ್ನು ಮನಗಂಡ ಕೆಎಲ್ಇ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯ ಡಾ. ಸಂಪತ್ ಕುಮಾರ್ ಶಿವನಗಿ ಕ್ಯಾನ್ಸರ್ ಆಸ್ಪತ್ರೆಯ ಚಿಕ್ಕಮಕ್ಕಳ ಕ್ಯಾನ್ಸರ್ ತಜ್ಞವೈದ್ಯರು ಬಾಲಕಿಗೆ ಈ ಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಥಮ ಬಾರಿಗೆ ಬೇರೊಬ್ಬರಿಂದ ಅಸ್ಥಿಮಜ್ಜೆ ದಾನ ಪಡೆದು ಅತ್ಯಾಧುನಿಕ ತಂತ್ರಜ್ಞಾನದ ಮೂಲಕ ಅಸ್ಥಿ ಕಸಿ ಮಾಡುವಲ್ಲಿ ಯಶಸ್ವಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
ಗೋಕಾಕ ತಾಲೂಕಿನ ಘಟಪ್ರಭಾ ಮೂಲದ 4 ವರ್ಷದ ಬಾಲಕಿ ಹುಟ್ಟಿನಿಂದಲೇ ಅನುವಂಶಿಕ ಖಾಯಲೆಯಿಂದ ಬಳಲುತ್ತಿದ್ದಳು. ಈ ಖಾಯಿಲಕೆಯಿಂದ ಅವಳ ದೇಹದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ಲೆಟ್ ಲೆಟ್ ಉತ್ಪಾದನೆಯಾಗದೇ ಅನೇಕ ಆರೋಗ್ಯ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆಗಳಿಗೆ ಕಾರಣವಾಗಿ, ಮುಖ್ಯವಾಗಿ ಗಂಭೀರವಾದ ರಕ್ತಸ್ರಾವವಾಗಿ ಜೀವನ್ಮರಣದ ನಡುವೆ ಹೋರಾಡುವಂತಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಇದರಿಂದ ಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆ ನಿರಂತರವಾಗಿ ಬೇಕಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಅಲ್ಲದೇ ಅಸ್ಥಿಮಜ್ಜೆ ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ವೈಫಲ್ಯವಾಗುವ ಹಂತಕ್ಕೆ ಬಂದಿತ್ತು. ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ಅಸ್ಥಿಮಜ್ಜೆ ಕಸಿ ಮಾಡುವದೊಂದೆ ಪರಿಹಾರವಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಅದಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತ ಲಭ್ಯವಿರುವ ಏಕೈಕ ಚಿಕಿತ್ಸಾ ಪ್ರಕ್ರಿಯೆಯಾದ ಅಲೋಜೆನಿಕ್ ಹೆಮಟೊಪೊಯಟಿಕ್ ಸ್ಟೆಮ್ ಸೆಲ್ ಕಸಿ ನೆರವೇರಿಸಲಾಯಿತು. ಆದರೆ ಮುಖ್ಯವಾಗಿ ಆರೋಗ್ಯವಾಗಿರುವ ಮಗುವಿನ ಸಹೋದರಿಯೇ ಅಸ್ಥಿಮಜ್ಜೆ ದಾನ ಮಾಡಿ ಅವಳಿಗೆ ಜೀವದಾನ ನೀಡಿದ್ದಾಳೆ.
ನಿರಂತರವಾಗಿ ಪ್ಲೆಟ್ ಲೆಟ್ ಕಡಿಮೆಯಾಗುವಿಕೆಯಿಂದ ಬಳಲುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಮಗುವಿನ ಸಹೋದರ ಕೂಡ ಇದೇ ಖಾಯಿಲೆಯಿಂದ ಸಾವನ್ನಪ್ಪಿದ್ದ. ಅನುವಂಶಿಕವಾಗಿ ಇರುವದು ಕಂಡು ಬಂದ ಕಾರಣ ಮಗುವಿನ ತೊಂದರೆಯನ್ನು ಪರಿಹರಿಸಲು ಅಲೋಜೆನಿಕ್ ಕಸಿ ನೆರವೇರಿಸಲು ನಿರ್ಧರಿಸಲಾಯಿತು. ಮಗುವಿನ ಸಹೋದರಿಯು ಅಸ್ಥಿಮಜ್ಜೆ ದಾನ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದು, ಅವಳ ಅಸ್ಥಿಮಜ್ಜೆಯ ಕಾಂಡಕೋಶಗಳನ್ನು ತೆಗೆದು ಬಾಲಕಿಗೆ ಕಸಿ ಮಾಡಲಾಯಿತು. ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಕ್ಲಿಷ್ಟಕರವಾದ ಶಸ್ತ್ರಚಿಕಿತ್ಸಾ ಪ್ರಕ್ರಿಯೆಯನ್ನು ಯಶಸ್ವಿಯಾಗಿ ನೆರವೇರಿಸಿ, ಮಗುವನ್ನು ಪ್ರಾಣಾಪಾಯದಿಂದ ಪಾರು ಮಾಡಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಕಸಿ ನಂತರ ಮಗು ಚೇತರಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದು ಈಗ ಆರೋಗ್ಯಕರವಾದ ರಕ್ತದ ಕಣಗಳನ್ನು ಉತ್ಪಾದಿಸುತ್ತಿದೆ.
ಉತ್ತರ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಥಮ ಅಲೋಜೆನಿಕ ಅಸ್ಥಿಮಜ್ಜೆ ಕಸಿ ಇದಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಕ್ಯಾನ್ಸರ್ ಪೀಡಿತ ಮಕ್ಕಳ ಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಘಟ್ಟವಾಗಿದೆ. ಅತ್ಯಾಧುನಿಕ ಮೂಲಭೂತ ಸೌಲಭ್ಯಗಳೊಂದಿಗೆ ಆಸ್ಪತ್ರೆಯು ಮಕ್ಕಳ ಆರೈಕೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಿರತವಾಗಿದೆ. ಯಶಸ್ವಿ ಶಸ್ತ್ರಚಿಕಿತ್ಸಾ ಪ್ರಕ್ರಿಯೆ ನಡೆಸಿದ ಚಿಕ್ಕಮಕ್ಕಳ ಕ್ಯಾನ್ಸರ ತಜ್ಞವೈದ್ಯರಾದ ಡಾ. ಅಭಿಲಾಶಾ ಎಸ್ ಹಾಗೂ ಅವರ ತಂಡವನ್ನು ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯ ಕಾರ್ಯಾಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರಾದ ಡಾ. ಪ್ರಭಾಕರ ಕೋರೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಆಡಳಿತ ಮಂಡಳಿ ಸದಸ್ಯರು, ಆಸ್ಪತ್ರೆಯ ವೈದ್ಯಕೀಯ ನಿರ್ದೇಶಕರಾದ ಡಾ. ಕರ್ನಲ್ ಎಂ ದಯಾನಂದ ಅಭಿನಂದಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
Landmark Medical Achievement:
In a significant milestone in pediatric hematology and oncology, the first allogenic bone marrow transplant was successfully performed at KLES Dr SS Shivangi cancer hospital by Dr Abhilasha and her team for a 4 year old girl child diagnosed with congenital amegakaryocytic thrombocytopenia (CAMT) .
CAMT is a genetic condition characterized by severely reduced platelet production from birth, often leading to serious bleeding complications. Left untreated, the condition progresses to complete bone marrow failure. The only curative treatment currently available is an allogenic hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT).
The child had been suffering from persistently low platelet counts since infancy, requiring frequent platelet transfusions and the elder sibling of this child had succumbed due to the same disorder. After thorough evaluation and genetic confirmation of CAMT, the decision was made to proceed with an allogenic transplant. A heartwarming aspect of this case was that the child’s elder sister who didn’t have this disorder, was found to be a fully HLA-matched sibling donor. She was subjected to bone marrow harvest procedure in which stem cells are extracted from the bone marrow. Following a carefully planned regimen, these healthy stem cells were infused to the child .
Post-transplant recovery was closely monitored, and engraftment occurred successfully. The child is now producing healthy blood cells.
This case marks a turning point in advanced pediatric care in our region as it is the first allogenic bone marrow transplant performed in North Karnataka, proving that even highly specialized procedures like bone marrow transplantation for rare genetic disorders and malignancies can be effectively carried out with the right expertise and infrastructure.
This achievement offers hope to other children suffering from rare hematologic disorders and reinforces the importance of early diagnosis, genetic counseling, and access to specialized care.
