KLE Advanced Simulation Centre and Clinical Skills Lab will be inaugurated by Amit Sha
Pragativahini News, Belagavi – The KLE Advanced Simulation Centre and Clinical Skills Lab, a new initiative of the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, a constituent unit of KLE Academy of Higher Education and Research (Deemed-to-be-University), is a state-of-the-art multi-professional training facility equipped with the most advanced Hi-Tech, Hi-fidelity simulators and skills trainers.
The centre is committed to inculcate competency-based simulation education into the curriculum of medical professionals through risk free learning with the ultimate mission of promoting patient safety.
Simulation based training is the need of the hour in Medical Education. The Medical students and trainees get trained on simulated models and mannikins to acquire and practice various patient care skills like resuscitation of seriously ill patients, emergency care, conducting deliveries even in complicated situations, performing surgeries, procedures like catherization, venipuncture, tracheostomy, intubation, etc. These trainees practice these skills on models till they acquire sufficient expertise to safely perform them on actual patients. This will not only help in teaching and training of Under-Graduate and Post Graduate Medical students but also help practicing Doctors to hone their cooperative/ Procedural Skills.
This centre will be one of its kind in this part of the State and will house some of the most advanced medical simulators and skill trainers providing learners with opportunities to learn in a safe and controlled environment. The centre also gives the trainees a unique opportunity to experience innovative methodologies of learning which improves the quality of healthcare and reinforces the highest level of performance among the caregivers within a safe, supervised, and dynamic learning environment.
Situated in the vast KLE’s Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College Campus in Belagavi, the centre has full body high fidelity simulators for maternal fetal care, neonatal care, and adult patient care along with simulators for laparoscopic surgery and interventional ultrasound training. Spread across an area of approximately 8000 sq. feet, the Centre has been segregated into ICU, OT and OPD like setup to allow inter-professional training by mimicking a real clinical environment. The facility also has provision for future expansion with simulators for other postgraduate and super specialty courses.
The centre has a dedicated faculty of trained professionals from the fields of medicine, nursing, biomedical, IT and allied sciences who will be involved in the teaching process. The functioning of the centre is monitored by a steering committee under the patronage of Dr. Prabhakar Kore, Hon Chancellor and Dr.Vivek Saoji, Vice-Chancellor of KLE Academy of Higher Education and Research (Deemed to be University).
The official inaugural of the KLE Advanced Simulation Centre and Clinical Skills Lab is scheduled at 2 PM on the 17th of January, 2021 at the hands of Amit Shah, Hon’ble Minister of Home Affairs, Government of India, in the presence of B.S.Yediyurapppa, Chief Minister of Karnataka and Pralhad Joshi, Minister of Coal , Parliamentary Affairs and Mines, GoI.
The centre will operate with daily trainings and activities along with the hosting of various simulation and skill-based CMEs and workshops.
Dr.Prabhakar Kore, Chairman KLE and VC KLE VV informed ina press conference on Friday. Mahantesh Kavatagimath, Director KLE and also Chief whip of Vidhana Parishat was present.
