*KSTDC to Invest ₹100 Crore to Upgrade 24 Hotels and 2 Restaurants: Minister K.J. George*

Pragativahini News: The Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation (KSTDC) will invest ₹100 crore to comprehensively upgrade 24 hotels and 2 restaurants located at key tourist destinations across the State, Energy and Tourism Minister K.J. George said.
The programme is aimed at moving beyond basic accommodation and improving the entire guest experience through better rooms, quality food, higher cleanliness standards, professional hospitality, easier booking and upgraded visitor services.
Several KSTDC Mayura properties are located at some of Karnataka’s most distinctive tourism locations, including Hampi, Jog Falls, Nandi Hills, Madikeri and KRS. Many of these properties enjoy a location advantage that is difficult for private hospitality operators to replicate.
The upgrade programme seeks to convert that locational strength into a stronger hospitality offering, thereby improving visitor satisfaction while also increasing occupancy and revenue for KSTDC.
Comprehensive Upgrade, Not Just Renovation
Under the ₹100 crore programme, improvements will be taken up in phases across guest rooms, bathrooms, restaurants, kitchens, reception areas, common spaces, furniture, lighting, landscaping and other visitor amenities.
Equal emphasis will be placed on service quality, cleanliness, food standards, housekeeping, staff hospitality skills, online booking systems and structured guest feedback.
Property-specific plans will be prepared based on location, visitor demand and feasibility, with suitable properties targeted for 3-star and higher levels of amenities and service standards.
“The biggest strength of KSTDC’s Mayura Hotels is their location. We have properties at some of the State’s finest tourism destinations and in locations that are difficult to replicate. We now have to match that advantage with better rooms, quality food and professional hospitality. Through this ₹100 crore investment, our objective is to significantly improve the guest experience and make KSTDC properties more competitive and commercially stronger,” Minister K.J. George said.
“Visitors should not have to compromise on quality simply because they are staying at a government-run hotel. Mayura Hotels must set strong standards in location, amenities and service,” he added.
KSTDC Chairman M. Srinivas said, “Mayura Hotels already benefit from strong brand recognition and exceptional locations. By combining these strengths with modern amenities and improved service standards, we have a significant opportunity to attract more guests, improve room occupancy and enhance revenue. The ₹100 crore programme will be implemented in phases based on priority.”
Tourism Secretary Dr. Ram Prasath Manohar said the programme would go well beyond physical renovation.
“We are not treating this merely as a building renovation exercise. Each property will be assessed individually based on its location, visitor demand, current utilisation and revenue potential. Along with infrastructure improvements, we will strengthen service standards, room upkeep, food quality, online booking and guest feedback systems to deliver a consistently better hospitality experience across Mayura Hotels,” he said.
