Visvesvaraya Technological University has organized Two Day 48th ISTE (Indian Society for Technical Education) National Annual Faculty Convention-2019 on the theme “Technical Education for Smart Society” on 19th and 20th March 2019 at “Jnana Sangama”, Belagavi.

The inaugural function of the convention was held Today. Dr. Pratapsinh K. Desai, President, ISTE, New Delhi inaugurated the convention. In his inaugural address he said that “ISTE is the platform for the stakeholders to discuss the challenges before the technical education in our country. Nowadays, the basic requirement to start the industry is technology, hence, the technology is changing tremendously”.

“Engineering students in our country are exceptionally good, but faculty members they have to motivate them to undertake research in the agriculture and industrial sectors and also make them ready to take risks to achieve their objective” he added.

Dr. B. R. Sarmah, Vice President, ISTE said that “faculty members are builders of the nation and they should have curiosity to convert the ordinary students into extra-ordinary”.

Dr. Karisiddappa, Vice Chancellor of VTU presided over the function. In his presidential address he said that “faculty members should update themselves and provide an advanced knowledge to students through information and communication technology and should also encourage them to establish industries in the rural areas”.

“Our technical education institutions should also create necessary infrastructure for vibrant classroom teaching which will solve the needs of our society” added.

On this occasion, Dr. Jagadish Patel from ISTE Gujarat Section, H. U. Talawar, Director, Technical Education, Govt. of Karnataka and Prof. S. Shashidhar, Executive Council Member, ISTE were felicitated with ISTE Fellowship awards. On behalf of awardees H. U. Talawar appreciated the various activities of ISTE.

And also ISTE honored VTU with KIIT National Award for best Technical University in the country for year 2018.

Surya Prakash Mohapatra, Global Head- Talent Transformation and Learning & Development at Wipro Digital Operations and Platforms delivered key-note address. Dr. C. K. Subbraya, Chairman, ISTE Karnataka Section welcomed. Dr. Satish Annigeri, Registrar (I/C) of  VTU, Dr. Vijay D. Vaidya, Executive Secretary, ISTE, Dr. T. S. Indumati, Treasurer, ISTE, Dr. Anand V. Shivapur and Dr. N. D. Birje, Organizing Secretaries, 48th ISTE Convention were present on the dais.

Members of Executive Council and Academic Senate of VTU, Executive Council members of ISTE, Engineering College Principals and representatives from industry were participated in function.

During the two day convention, paper presentations, memorial lectures, invited lectures will be held along with panel discussion. Over 1000 delegates from all over country are participating in the Convention.
