Pragativahini News, Bangalore:
Will Sumalatha Ambarish, newly elected MP from Mandya join Congress in near future? This question is doing round in the political circles of the state after some developments in Mandya.
Sumalatha who was an aspirant of Congress ticket from Mandya was denied ticket by the party after the seat went to JDS during seat sharing. There after Sumalatha contested as independent against JDS candidate Nikhil Kumaraswamy. She trounced Nikhil by a margin of one lakh plus votes. During the election BJP had declared its support to her and BJP did not field any candidate in Mandya.
Amid the rumour that she would join BJP after her victory Sumalatha met former Chief Ministers and BJP leaders B S Yedyurappa and S M Krishna after her victory in Mandya. But now BJP has made it clear that it would not invite her and if she is willing to join BJP she is welcome. BJP has 303 MPs in the parliament and it do not need her support.
Though Sumalatha is saying that she has not decided to join any party and any decision on joining any party will be taken only after consulting her supporters in Mandya the recent developments have given credence to the rumour that she would join Congress.
Now her pictures are being seen in the flexes and banners of Congress party and Congress leader Chaluvarayaswamy has met her. She too greeted Cheluvarayaswamy on the occasion his birth day a few days ago. Many Congress leaders are reportedly meeting her it is said.
The political move of Sumalatha, who is the only independent MP in the LOK Sabha has given rise to the different speculations.
