ಪ್ರಗತಿವಾಹಿನಿ ಸುದ್ದಿ: ವಿಶ್ವೇಶ್ವರಯ್ಯ ತಾಂತ್ರಿಕ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯ (ವಿಟಿಯು), ಬೆಳಗಾವಿಯ ಜ್ಞಾನ ಸಂಗಮದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ವಿಟಿಯು ಆಡಿಟೋರಿಯಂನಲ್ಲಿ ವಿಟಿಯು ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ “ಇಂಜಿನಿಯರಿಂಗ್ ಗ್ರಂಥಪಾಲಕತ್ವ” ಸಮ್ಮೇಳನ (VTUNCEL-2025) ಇಂದು ಉದ್ಘಾಟನೆಗೊಂಡಿತು.
ವಿಟಿಯುನ ಶ್ರೀ ಎಸ್.ಜಿ. ಬಾಳೇಕುಂದ್ರಿ ಕೇಂದ್ರ ಗ್ರಂಥಾಲಯ ಮತ್ತು ಮಾಹಿತಿ ಕೇಂದ್ರದ ವತಿಯಿಂದ ಆಯೋಜಿಸಲಾದ ಈ ಮೂರು ದಿನಗಳ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ತ್ರ ಮಟ್ಟದ ಸಮ್ಮೇಳನದಲ್ಲಿ ದೇಶದ ವಿವಿಧ ಭಾಗಗಳಿಂದ ಗ್ರಂಥಪಾಲಕರು, ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ತಜ್ಞರು, ಸಂಶೋಧಕರು ಹಾಗೂ ಮಾಹಿತಿ ತಜ್ಞರು ಭಾಗವಹಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
ಸಮ್ಮೇಳನವನ್ನು ಉದ್ಘಾಟಿಸಿ ಮಾತನಾಡಿದ ವಿಟಿಯು ಕನ್ಸೋರ್ಟಿಯಂ ಸಲಹೆಗಾರರಾದ ಪ್ರೊ. ಮುತ್ತಯ್ಯ ಕೊಗನೂರಮಠ ಅವರು ಎಂಜಿನಿಯರಿಂಗ್ ಗ್ರಂಥಾಲಯಶಾಸ್ತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆಯುತ್ತಿರುವ ಸಮಕಾಲೀನ ಬದಲಾವಣೆಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಮಾಹಿತಿ ನಿರ್ವಹಣೆಯ ಹೊಸ ಆಯಾಮಗಳನ್ನು ವಿವರಿಸಿದರು. ಅವರು ಮುಖ್ಯವಾಗಿ ಗ್ರಂಥಾಲಯ ಸೇವೆಗಳ ಡಿಜಿಟಲ್ ಪರಿವರ್ತನೆ, ಜ್ಞಾನ ನಿರ್ವಹಣೆ ಮತ್ತು ಸಂಶೋಧನೆಗೆ ಬೆಂಬಲ ಸೇವೆಗಳು, ಇ-ಸಂಪನ್ಮೂಲ ಪ್ರವೇಶ, ಕನ್ಸೋರ್ಟಿಯಂ ಆಧಾರಿತ ಸಂಪನ್ಮೂಲಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಡೇಟಾಬೇಸ್ಗಳು, ಡೇಟಾ ಆಧಾರಿತ ಗ್ರಂಥಾಲಯ ನಿರ್ವಹಣೆ ಮತ್ತು ನಿರ್ಧಾರ ಪ್ರಕ್ರಿಯೆ, ರೆಪೊಸಿಟರಿ ಮತ್ತು ಶೈಕ್ಷಣಿಕ ಸಂಪರ್ಕ ಮೂಲಕ ಸಂಶೋಧನ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿಸುವುದುಈ ವಿಷಯಗಳನ್ನು ಪ್ರಸ್ತಾಪಿಸಿದರು
ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷತೆ ವಹಿಸಿದ್ದ ವಿಟಿಯು ಕುಲಪತಿ ಡಾ. ಎಸ್. ವಿದ್ಯಾಶಂಕರ್ ಅವರು, ಗುಣಮಟ್ಟದ ಬೋಧನೆ, ಸಂಶೋಧನೆ ಹಾಗೂ ನವೋದ್ಯಮಕ್ಕೆ ಆಧುನಿಕ ಗ್ರಂಥಾಲಯಗಳು ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಕೇಂದ್ರಗಳಾಗಿವೆ ಎಂದು ತಿಳಿಸಿದರು.
ಇವತ್ತಿನ ಬದಲಾದ ಸನ್ನಿವೇಶದಲ್ಲಿ ಗ್ರಂಥಪಾಲಕರು ಕೇವಲ ಗ್ರಂಥಾಲಯಕ್ಕೆ ಸೀಮಿತವಾಗದೆ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು ಗ್ರಂಥಾಲಯಕ್ಕೆ ಬಂದು ಓದುವಂತೆ ಯೋಜನೆಗಳನ್ನು ರೂಪಿಸಿ ಹೊಸ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮಗಳಿಂದ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಓದುವ ಪ್ರವೃತ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ಬೆಳೆಸಬೇಕು ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದರು. ಸಾಧ್ಯವಾದರೆ ಗ್ರಂಥಾಲಯವನ್ನು ಪೂರ್ಣ ೨೪ ಗಂಟೆಯೂ ಕಾರ್ಯನಿರ್ವಹಿಸುವಂತೆ ಮಾಡಬೇಕು ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದರು.
ಇಂದಿನ ಯುಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಜ್ಞಾನವು ಅತ್ಯಂತ ವೇಗವಾಗಿ ವೃದ್ಧಿಯಾಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದು, ತಂತ್ರಜ್ಞಾನವು ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ, ಸಂಶೋಧನೆ ಮತ್ತು ಉದ್ಯಮದ ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಂದು ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ಮಹತ್ವದ ಬದಲಾವಣೆಗಳನ್ನು ತರುತ್ತಿದೆ. ಕೃತಕ ಬುದ್ಧಿಮತ್ತೆ (Artificial Intelligence), ಡೇಟಾ ಸೈನ್ಸ್, ಸೈಬರ್ ಭದ್ರತೆ, ರೋಬೋಟಿಕ್ಸ್, ಇಂಟರ್ನೆಟ್ ಆಫ್ ಥಿಂಗ್ಸ್ (IoT), ಸುಸ್ಥಿರ ತಂತ್ರಜ್ಞಾನಗಳು (Sustainable Technologies) ಹಾಗೂ ಉನ್ನತ ಉತ್ಪಾದನಾ ತಂತ್ರಗಳು (Advanced Manufacturing) ಮುಂತಾದ ಹೊಸ ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿಗಳೊಂದಿಗೆ ಇಂಜಿನಿಯರಿಂಗ್ ಶಾಖೆಗಳು ನಿರಂತರವಾಗಿ ರೂಪಾಂತರಗೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಿವೆ. ಇಂತಹ ಚುರುಕು ಹಾಗೂ ನಿರಂತರ ಬದಲಾಗುತ್ತಿರುವ ಪರಿಸರದಲ್ಲಿ ಗ್ರಂಥಾಲಯಗಳ ಪಾತ್ರವು ಸಾಂಪ್ರದಾಯಿಕ ಮಿತಿಗಳನ್ನು ಮೀರಿ ವಿಸ್ತರಿಸಿದೆ. ಆಧುನಿಕ ಗ್ರಂಥಾಲಯವು ಕೇವಲ ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳ ಸಂಗ್ರಹಾಲಯವಲ್ಲ—ಅದು ಜ್ಞಾನಕೇಂದ್ರ, ಡಿಜಿಟಲ್ ಲೋಕಕ್ಕೆ ಪ್ರವೇಶ ದ್ವಾರ, ಸಂಶೋಧನಕ್ಕೆ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥಿತ ಸಹಕಾರ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆ ಮತ್ತು ಕಲಿಕೆ ಹಾಗೂ ನವೀನತೆಯನ್ನು ಉತ್ತೇಜಿಸುವ ಶಕ್ತಿಕೇಂದ್ರವಾಗಿದ್ದು, ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಸಂಶೋಧಕರು ಸದಾ ಸಾಮರ್ಥ್ಯವಂತರಾಗಿ ಇರಲು ನೆರವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.
ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ಇಂಜಿನಿಯರಿಂಗ್ ಗ್ರಂಥಪಾಲನ (Engineering Librarianship) ಒಂದು ಅತ್ಯಂತ ವಿಶೇಷೀಕೃತ ಹಾಗೂ ತಂತ್ರಾತ್ಮಕ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರವಾಗಿ ರೂಪುಗೊಂಡಿದೆ. ಇಂದಿನ ಇಂಜಿನಿಯರಿಂಗ್ ಗ್ರಂಥಪಾಲಕರು ಕೇವಲ ಮಾಹಿತಿಯ ಸಂರಕ್ಷಕರಷ್ಟೇ ಅಲ್ಲ, ಶೈಕ್ಷಣಿಕ ಪ್ರಗತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಜ್ಞಾನದ ಸಹಭಾಗಿಗಳಾಗಿಯೂ ಕಾರ್ಯನಿರ್ವಹಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಇ-ಸಂಪನ್ಮೂಲಗಳು, ಸಂಶೋಧನಾ ಜರ್ನಲ್ಗಳು, ಡೇಟಾಬೇಸ್ಗಳು, ಪೇಟೆಂಟ್ಗಳು ಹಾಗೂ ತಾಂತ್ರಿಕ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ಪ್ರವೇಶ ಒದಗಿಸುವ ಮೂಲಕ ಬೋಧನೆ ಮತ್ತು ಕಲಿಕೆಯನ್ನು ಬೆಂಬಲಿಸುವಲ್ಲಿ ಗ್ರಂಥಪಾಲಕರು ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಪಾತ್ರವಹಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಅವರು ಅಧ್ಯಾಪಕರು ಮತ್ತು ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಶೈಕ್ಷಣಿಕ ಪ್ರಕಟಣೆ, ಸಂಶೋಧನಾ ನೈತಿಕತೆ, ಪ್ಲೇಗರಿಸಂ (Plagiarism) ತಡೆ, ಉಲ್ಲೇಖ ನಿರ್ವಹಣೆ (Citation Management) ಕುರಿತು ಮಾರ್ಗದರ್ಶನ ನೀಡುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಜೊತೆಗೆ, ಉನ್ನತ ಪ್ರಭಾವ ಬೀರುವ ಸಂಶೋಧನಾ ಪ್ರವೃತ್ತಿಗಳನ್ನು ಗುರುತಿಸಲು ಹಾಗೂ ಗುಣಮಟ್ಟದ ಸಂಪನ್ಮೂಲಗಳನ್ನು ಆಯ್ಕೆಮಾಡಲು ಸಹ ಸಹಾಯ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಅನೇಕ ರೀತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ, ಗ್ರಂಥಪಾಲಕರು ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಂದು ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯ ಮತ್ತು ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯ ಶೈಕ್ಷಣಿಕ ಅಡಿಪಾಯವನ್ನು ಬಲಪಡಿಸುವ ಮೌನಶಕ್ತಿಯಾಗಿ ಕಾರ್ಯನಿರ್ವಹಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದರು.
ಕುಲಸಚಿವರಾದ ಪ್ರೊ ಪ್ರಸಾದ್ ರಾಂಪುರೆ ಸ್ವಾಗತಿಸಿದರು ಹಾಗೂ ಮೌಲ್ಯಮಾಪನ ಕುಲಸಚಿವರಾದ ಪ್ರೊ ಉಜ್ವಲ್ ಯು ಜೆ ಅವರು ವಂದಿಸಿದರು. ಸಮ್ಮೇಳನದ ಸಂಯೋಜನಾಧಿಕಾರಿ ಡಾ ಸೋಮರಾಯ ತಳ್ಳೊಳ್ಳಿ ಅತಿಥಿಗಳನ್ನು ಪರಿಚಯಸಿದರು. ಈ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ ವೇದಿಕೆ ಮೇಲೆ ವಿ ಟಿ ಯು ಹಣಕಾಸು ಅಧಿಕಾರಿ ಡಾ ಪ್ರಶಾಂತ ನಾಯಕ್ ಜಿ , ವಿ ಟಿ ಯುನ ದಾವಣಗೆರೆ ಘಟಕ ಕಾಲೇಜು ಪ್ರಾಚಾರ್ಯರಾದ ಪ್ರೊ ನಾಗರಾಜಪ್ಪ ಉಪಸ್ಥಿತರಿದ್ದರು. ಸಮ್ಮೇಳನದ ನಿರ್ದೇಶಕರಾದ ಡಾ ಸಿದ್ದಲಿಂಗಯ್ಯ ಎಚ್ ಅವರಿ ಪ್ರಾಸ್ತಾವಿಕ ನುಡಿಗಳನ್ನಾಡಿದರು.
ಈ ಸಮ್ಮೇಳನದಲ್ಲಿ 150–200 ಪ್ರತಿನಿಧಿಗಳು ಭಾಗವಹಿಸಿದ್ದು, ಸುಮಾರು ೭೨ ಸಂಸೊಧ್ನ ಲೇಖನಗಳ ಮಂಡನೆಯಾಗಲಿವೆ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ತಾಂತ್ರಿಕ ಅಧಿವೇಶನಗಳು ಹಾಗೂ ಚರ್ಚೆಗಳು ನಡೆಯಲಿವೆ.

Three-Day National Conference on “Engineering Librarianship” Inaugurated at VTU
The National Conference on “Engineering Librarianship” (VTUNCEL–2025) was inaugurated today at the VTU Auditorium, Jnana Sangama campus, Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi. The three-day national-level conference is being organized by the S.G. Balekundri Central Library and Information Centre, VTU. Librarians, educationists, researchers, and information professionals from various parts of the country are participating in the event.
Inaugurating the conference, VTU Consortium Advisor Prof. Muttayya Koganuramath explained the contemporary changes taking place in engineering library science and the emerging dimensions of information management. He highlighted key topics such as digital transformation of library services, knowledge management and research support services, access to e-resources, consortium-based resources and databases, data-driven library management and decision-making processes, and enhancing research through repositories and academic networking.
Presiding over the programme, VTU Vice-Chancellor Dr. S. Vidyashankar stated that modern libraries are key centres for quality teaching, research, and innovation. In the present changing scenario, librarians should not restrict themselves only to routine library activities, but should design plans and introduce new programmes that encourage students to visit libraries and develop a strong reading habit. He also suggested that, if possible, libraries should function round the clock (24 hours).
Dr. Vidyashankar further noted that knowledge is growing rapidly in today’s era and technology is bringing significant changes in every field of education, research, and industry. Engineering disciplines are continuously evolving with new developments such as Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Cyber Security, Robotics, Internet of Things (IoT), Sustainable Technologies, and Advanced Manufacturing. In such a dynamic and constantly changing environment, the role of libraries has expanded beyond traditional boundaries.
He emphasized that a modern library is not merely a collection of books, but a knowledge hub, a gateway to the digital world, a structured support system for research, and a powerful centre that promotes learning and innovation. Libraries play a vital role in helping students and researchers remain competent and up-to-date.
He added that Engineering Librarianship has emerged as a highly specialized and strategic field. Today’s engineering librarians are not just custodians of information but active partners in academic progress. By providing access to e-resources, research journals, databases, patents, and technical literature, librarians significantly support teaching and learning. They also guide faculty and students on academic publishing, research ethics, plagiarism prevention, and citation management. Additionally, they help identify high-impact research trends and assist in selecting quality resources. In many ways, librarians serve as the silent strength that strengthens the academic foundation of every university and institution.
The programme began with a welcome address by Registrar Prof. Prasad Rampure and a vote of thanks by Evaluation Registrar Prof. Ujwal U.J. The guests were introduced by Conference Coordinator Dr. Somaraya Tallolli. VTU Finance Officer Dr. Prashanta Nayak G and Principal of VTU constituent college UBDTCE Davanagere prof Nagarajappa were also present on the dais. The conference director Dr. Siddalingayya H. delivered the introductory remarks.
Around 150 to 200 delegates are participating in the conference, and approximately 72 research papers will be presented. Technical sessions and discussions will also be held during the three-day event.
