A prisoner from Tamil Nadu who was sentenced to death by the court has escaped from the Hindalaga jail in Belagavi on April 22. The prisoner has been identified as Murugan.
He was awarded death penalty in 2017 on the charges of hacking five persons to death in Chamarajanagar. Murugan climbed the compound wall of the jail with help of the iron rods and escaped, it is said.
T. Shesha, Chief Superintendent of Hindalaga jail has confirmed that Muruga has escaped from the jail. A complaint has been lodged with the Belagavi police in this connection, he said.
