District Tobacco Control Cell (DTCC) and the police in a joint operation registered 19 cases in Athani taluk under The Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply and Distribution) Act, 2003 or COTPA, 2003.
Fine has been levied upon the traders for the violation of the COTPA, 2003. While filing the cases the officials informed the people and the traders about the bad effects of the consumption of the Tobacco.
Dr. Shweta Patil, of DTCC, Kavita Rajannavar, social activist, B. S. Chawan, Senior Health Inspector and police officials participated in the raid.
