Forest Minister Satish Jarakiholi on Thursday denied that he had ever passed derogatory remarks against Brahmin community. The State Brahmin Mahasabha had objected to the alleged defamatory statement of Satish against Brahmin community and had threatened to file case against him.
In a clarification Satish said that while campaigning in Kaolin village he had not mentioned anything about the freedom struggle. I have respect about all those who fought for the freedom of this country. But I had stated that the people belonging to backward community and minorities are more in number in the armed forces. It is a reality. But some people have understood it and spreading canard against me, he alleged. The stance taken by M. B. Jirali spokesperson of BJP, and Hanumnat Kotabagi, Vice President of Bramhana Mahasabha is wrong and I condemn it, Satish added.
There is no question of speaking against Brahmin community. My statements should be viewed in right perspectives. I am ready for a open debate over the issue. Those who are spreading misinformation about the issue should come forward for a open debate, he said.
If anybody tries to complicate the issue by not accepting the invitation for the open debate and spread falsehood against me over the issue then they have to face the legal action including the defamation case Satish warned.
