With AICC president Rahul Gandhi refusing to continue in the post the change in guard of Congress has become imminent.
Though the party has considered many names there was no consensus on the names it is said. There is a possibility that Ashok Gelhot the 65 years old Chief Minister from Rajasthan may emerge as the consensus candidate, the Congress sources said.
Though Rahul is angry with Gelhot after his poor performance in recently concluded LS polls, Gehlot’s organisational experience has weighed in his favour. Gelhot worked as the AICC general secretary when Rahul was the president. He was the in charge of Gujarat state during the assembly polls there.
A I family loyalist, Ashok was five times MP, three times Cabinet Minister, Rajasthan Congress President and three time CM in that state.
