Inauguration of Gymkhana activities in Raja Lakhamagouda Law college

Pragativahini News, Belagavi – “Young advocates have a great responsibility towards nation building. To prepare towards that role, they should imbibe values of social responsibility from student days itself,’’  Raghavedra Suhas, IPS, IGP, northern range, Belagavi said in Belagavi on Saturday. He was speaking at the inauguration of the gymkhana activities for this year.

“You should take a cue from the Indian independence movement. It was led by a few dedicated lawyers like Mahatma Gandhi. I think the humiliation he faced in a railway platform in South Africa was the beginning of the agitation,’’ he said.

“Post independence, the destiny of the nascent country was shaped by visionaries like Dr B R Ambedkar. We should always remember that these leaders were distinguished lawyers,’’ Mr Suhas said.

“In later decades, Indian law has evolved and matured. Several institutions have been built around the concept of justice and equity. Pro- people lawyers have helped us face several challenges like emergency, environment disaster, and establishing and protecting new patents. Young people should also aspire to become effective leaders in this electoral democracy,’’ he said.

He said that R L Law College had produced eminent alumni like S R Bommai who fought a long battle to establish principles of federalism. It is because of the S R Bommai Vs Union of India case that we have concepts like floor test during the no confidence motion.

He asked young students to aim high and work towards it. Don’t limit your aspirations. You should try to be Supreme Court judges and leaders,’’ he said. He greeted the members of the students council that were elected on the basis of merit.

S V Ganachari, Senior advocate and member of the Governing Council of the college presided over the function. He asked students to aim for the overall personality development and not just on scholastic achievements.

Principal Dr A H Hawaldar introduced the achievements of the college and the alumni it had produced. Gymkhana Committee Chairman Prof Prahlad A Yajurvedi welcomed the gathering. Ladies Representative Ms Anuja Belagaonkar proposed the vote of thanks. Ms   Pooja Badkundri compeered.
