KOA President Dr. K. Govindaraj Meets IOC President Kirsty Coventry

Discusses Karnataka’s sports development and future sporting initiatives

Pragativahini news/ Nagoya, Japan: Dr. K. Govindaraj, President of the Karnataka Olympic Association (KOA), President of FIBA Asia and Member of the Karnataka Legislative Council, met International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Kirsty Coventry on the sidelines of the 20th Asian Games being held in Japan.

Dr. Govindaraj met Kirsty Coventry during the opening ceremony of the Asian Games and briefed her on various initiatives and programmes undertaken by the Karnataka Olympic Association to promote and develop sports in the state.

He also apprised the IOC President of the support and encouragement being extended by the Government of Karnataka towards the development of sports and sporting infrastructure in the state.

KOA President invites IOC chief to Bengaluru

During the interaction, Dr. Govindaraj invited Kirsty Coventry to visit Bengaluru in the future in connection with sporting activities and initiatives.

He highlighted Bengaluru’s emergence as a major hub for basketball and other sports in the country. He informed her that the city has already hosted more than 12 international basketball tournaments.

As President of FIBA Asia, Dr. Govindaraj also shared information about the upcoming FIBA Asia Women’s Basketball League, which is scheduled to be held next month, and discussed the growing importance of Bengaluru as a destination for international sporting events.

Witnesses men’s basketball final

Kirsty Coventry and Dr. K. Govindaraj also watched the men’s basketball final between hosts Japan and Korea.

Korea defeated Japan 67–57 to clinch the gold medal.
