MLA’s son among the farmers arrested in Halaga, MLA Lakshmi Hebbalkar upset

The dispute over setting up of solid waste management unit in Halaga village on the outskirt of Belagavi city took a serious turn on Wednesday and police arrested several farmers including Mrunal, son of Belagavi rural MLA Lakshmi Hebbalkar.


Angered by the incident MLA, Lakshmi has announced that she would not allow the government acquire the land of the farmers in the area. Lakshmi is opposing the waste management unit in the human inhabitation and farmer’s land since beginning. This land is near Suvarna Vidhanasoudha. Earlier it was agreed to set up a committee to find a solution to the problem. But on Tuesday the officials arrived on the spot with police force and tried to take over the land. At this juncture Mrunal Hebbalkar and farmers protested it. Police took them into the custody and shifted to the police station.


Upset by this Lakshmi Hebbalkar questioned why the administration trying to take over the land in her absence. Some unknown hands are working behind this. The land acquisition will not be allowed for the Solid waste management unit in the area, Lakshmi informed Pragativahini.
