“Yes, at today’s market value, I have assets worth ₹1,400 crore. I have acquired assets within the legal framework. Kumaraswamy is talking like this out of desperation,” countered CM D.K. Shivakumar.
Shivakumar was responding to the media in New Delhi on Tuesday.
Responding to Kumaraswamy’s allegations, he said, “Due to the rift in the BJP-JDS alliance and the rat race between them, Kumaraswamy has become desperate. He is unable to digest it. Why was he silent all these days? His father Deve Gowda himself had signed that project. Additionally, he too was the Chief Minister. Moreover, they themselves tried and awarded a tender to someone named Gandhi. The court had reprimanded them regarding this matter. Many transactions took place in benami names here and there. Unlike him, I will not go about taking names.”
Is Kumaraswamy an IT Officer?
“He has spoken about my assets. Being a farmer’s son and an entrepreneur, shouldn’t I own assets? Shouldn’t my children buy assets? I have created assets strictly within the legal scope available. What is wrong with that? Is Kumaraswamy an Income Tax officer? Let him submit the information to the Income Tax Department,” he challenged.
“Can only these people come from some town and buy up all the properties here? Don’t they have properties within the BMICAPA and NICE Road project? Who all have bought properties? Why are all their properties within that range, and how did property come into the Bidadi Township project?” he questioned.
“Let Kumaraswamy do whatever he wants. I don’t care about it. I have assets. If my children have the capacity to buy more, they will. The law permits it, they have the purchasing power, and they will live their lives,” he clarified.

When asked about the allegation that he invested ₹5 crore with Sobha Developers which has now grown to ₹2,000 crore, he sarcastically remarked, “Yes, we will make as much as possible. Former CM, the late Bangarappa, had given me a site for ₹1 lakh back then. Today its value is ₹20 crore. Is there anything wrong with this? Have I looted bribes? Or have I been caught in any scam? None of that exists, right?”
Nothing Done Secretly
“I have every right and opportunity to do business. My children also have the capacity. They have the ability to purchase more. I don’t need to do anything secretly. I have already declared my assets,” he said.
Mocking him, he added, “I won’t go into detail about what all Kumaraswamy has right now. Someone told me these things. Hasn’t Kumaraswamy taken everything and submitted it to various agencies already? How many more times will he submit it? If he needs a lorry, we can send one for him.”
Let Him Come to the Assembly and Debate
When asked about Kumaraswamy challenging him to a debate on the steps of the Vidhana Soudha, he said, “Why on the steps of the Vidhana Soudha? If he has the courage, let him make someone resign from their Council or Assembly membership, get into the Assembly, and debate inside. Instead of debating on the steps of the Vidhana Soudha, there is Freedom Park—let him go there and debate.”

Speaking on Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy’s statement that he did not get support the implementation of the NICE project, he said, “He was in power in 2007, right? They were the ones who gave it in auction to Nikhil Gandhi. Why couldn’t they do it? Those who failed to cancel the toll when they were in power should now should ask Prime Minister Modi to stop tolls across the country. D.K. Shivakumar will not fear all these hollow threats. I have seen plenty of these dramas, plays, philosophy, and blackmail. I don’t bother with these. Let us do the work we need to do. They cannot tolerate our government’s popularity. I have said before, I am saying now, and I will say tomorrow: there is no cure for jealousy.”

When asked about Kumaraswamy claiming that this is Part 1, he said, “Part 1, 2, 3, 4, sting operations, artificial intelligence—I know everything they have. I have known it since Chennigappa’s time. They are the ones who tapped the phones of Balagangadharanatha Swamiji and Nirmalanandanatha Swamiji; they didn’t spare them, so will they spare me? If anyone thinks otherwise, no one is a bigger fool than us. I wasn’t afraid when he was the Chief Minister; will I be afraid now? It is not in my nature to be intimidated or blackmailed by big threats.”

Attacking him further, he said, “Will those who cannot digest their own father and brothers spare us? We don’t expect anything good from them. They are doing this out of ‘jealousy’ because they cannot tolerate our government’s popularity. They have neither culture nor manners.”
When asked if there is a logical end to this, he said, “I don’t like making allegations against him. I don’t have the time for all that. I am only answering because you asked. I don’t even like giving answers.”
When asked again about the site given by Bangarappa, he said, “During the tenure of former Chief Minister, late Bangarappa, I bought a site by paying ₹99,000. He had allotted it himself. Today it is worth ₹20 crore. The value of my property has increased. I have declared it. What is wrong with that? I have hundreds of such properties. I don’t have money earned by keeping a lorry and sweeping garbage. I have my own profession and business life. I have declared assets every year. The Election Commission and the ED have seen everything. Let them put any bigger agency and inspect it. Who is saying no?”
Complaint Against Yathindra Siddaramaiah Is False
When asked about the complaint filed with the Lokayukta against minister Yathindra Siddaramaiah, he dismissed it saying, “It has been only a few months since he became a minister; is it possible to commit an irregularity of ₹444 crore in that time? All of that is completely false and baseless.”

Explaining his Delhi visit, the CM said, “Today in Delhi, we held an important meeting regarding the Education Policy of Southern States and preventing examination malpractices. AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, K.C. Venugopal, along with Ministers and CMs from Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Kerala, and Himachal Pradesh attended. The high command leaders have given us clear guidance on maintaining transparency in all exams, including KPSC, and preventing paper leaks. We are committed to bringing reforms in the education sector through the Cabinet Sub-Committee led by Minister U.T. Khader.”
He added, “In some states, they are trying to incorporate BJP ideology into textbooks. We have guidance to take action on national issues based on the principles we have had from the beginning.”

Speaking on the Contractors’ Association writing a letter requesting the release of ₹38,000 crore in pending dues, he mockingly said, “The previous Yediyurappa government gave so many works, imposed a huge financial burden, and left. Tell the people holding press conferences to suggest a solution for this.” He added, “The situation is tough, but appropriate measures will be taken to resolve it.”
